Green biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using sodium alginate extracted from Sargassum latifolium and their antibacterial activity

Abstract Brown seaweed Sargassum latifolium produces a sufficient amount of alginate. It is derived from the cell wall as natural anionic polysaccharide. In present study, alginate was extracted S. , its physicochemical properties, potential for silver nanoparticles formation, characterization nanoparticles, and antibacterial activity studied. Physical analysis sodium colour (pale yellow), yield (25.34%), water content (13.17%), ash (15.5%), pH (8.6) were investigated. addition, UV scan analyses illustrated that bioactive compounds separated in range 200–400 nm. On other hand, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis) synthesized gave maximum peak at 413 Besides that, Fourier Transforms Infrared (FT-IR) alginate, revealed variety functional groups, such –OH, –NH, –CH, –COOH, CO, C–C, thermogravimetric demonstrated thermal degradation occurs two steps; Dehydration followed by to Na 2 CO 3 carbonized substance breaks down slowly between 600 750 °C N . Biochemical contents, protein, carbohydrate receptively, respectively, 0.89 78.56 mg/g dry wt. Alginate recorded maximal against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, cereus more than has no E. coli
